Shoes Hot off the Cat Walk

If you are thinking of reworking your shoe wardrobe this spring/summer there is one style that will serve you well – the platform.

On the fashion week catwalks 70′s fashion made a big comeback with Marc by Marc Jacobs spearheading the revival with studio 54 inspired pieces. Meanwhile celebs like Cheryl Cole, Elle Macpherson and Claudia Schiffer have taken the trend from the catwalks onto the street.

When it came to shoes, designers took the 70′s trends and created the ‘flatform’ a cross between a platform and a flat shoe that is supposed to be a comfy way to add height. However, they aren’t the most attractive looking shoe and even the celebs have failed to wear the weird hybrids. But if you want a bit of 70′s style then the platform is the answer and they definitely haven’t been shunned by the world of celebrities.

Coleen Rooney, Rihanna, Eva Mendes and Fearne Cotton have all been spotted in platform shoes in recent months and to really seal the trends’ popularity Posh Spice herself even wore a pair of platforms to April’s Royal Wedding.

If you can’t give up your heels, the platform could be the answer as today’s platform combines a high heel with a platform below the heel which does make for a far more stable alternative to spindly stilettos. Because of this they make the highest of heels easier to walk in as the platform bit straightens the sole a bit and adds much needed stability. That way women can have that added height we all crave, not to mention the leg lengthening qualities a good pair of heels has.

If you don’t fancy going for a pair of high heeled platforms then what about the other must have summer shoe a pair of wedges. What’s more they have been given a Royal seal of approval with Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, wearing a pair of black wedges the day after her wedding to Prince William. A wedge is a versatile addition to a summer wardrobe as they can be worn on the beach and even in the office, and they also channel that 70′s vibe perfectly.
